Assemble rigging to lift and move equipment or material in manufacturing plant or shipyard, selects cables, ropes, pulleys, winches, blocks, and sheaves, according to weight and size of load to be moved, attaches pulley and blocks to fixed overhead structures, such as beams, ceilings, and gin pole booms, with bolts and clamps, attaches load with grappling devices, such as loops, wires, ropes and chains, to crane hook, gives directions to Bridge-or-Gantry-Crane Operator or Hoisting Engineer engaged in hoisting and moving loads to insure safety of workers and material handled, using hand signals, loudspeaker, or telephone. The Rigger also sets up, braces, and rigs hoisting equipment, using hand tools and power wrenches, splices rope and wire cables to make or repair slings and tackle, and may direct workers engaged in hoisting machinery and equipment into ships
Three (3) years recent experience performing the duties of a Rigger. Fabricates, installs, and repairs rigging and weight-handling gear in manufacturing plant or shipyard, and attaches hoists and pulling gear to rigging to lift, move, and position machinery, equipment, structural parts, and other heavy loads aboard ship.
This position requires a Secret US DoD security clearance.
Prior Navy Rigger experience. Experience performing the duties of the labor category as described in the Department of Labor functional description.
Completion of an appropriate military “A" school and trade school certification
