• Provides support for special studies and advanced planning; operational communications systems, and ongoing/projected improvements. • Develops work plans and project internal controls. Assigned as group leader to lead an installation team using project management skills with full responsibility for technical and project direction of team. May also work independently. • Has a working knowledge and/or familiarity with the systems acquisition process and methodologies for the proper and most current methods of installing information and communications technology (ICT) related cabling within the confines of a commercial building structure. • Conduct site surveys, discuss, and evaluate specific applications of information and communications technology (ICT) cabling installation, make recommendations based on applicable codes, standards, and best practices, implement the job plan and scope of work for retrofits and upgrades to existing infrastructure. • Installs and terminates fiber optic cable, Cat 5, telephone, and/or variety of cable installation (surveying, labeling, pulling cable to desired locations, dress-in, and termination with appropriate connectors). • Installs cable tray (routed through overhead drop ceilings, under raised flooring, conducting penetrations, offsets, junctions, rod/strut support, etc. required for installation). • Installs communication room rack/cabinet (may require custom configuration/modification – cutting/drilling deck tile, re-routing existing paneling/cabling). • Installs wall/floor boxes and associated conduit/flex, faceplates, inserts and labels. • Builds and installs patch panels. • Performs troubleshooting, including testing, fault location, and repair of fiber, Cat 6, telephone, etc. cable systems.
BICSI Technician certification required. Associate degree in a technical or scientific field relating to the delivery order. Minimum 10 years of experience in a technical or scientific field relating to installing, terminating, testing, and troubleshooting copper and fiber optic cable. Proficient using general hand tools, test equipment and ability to read and interpret installation drawings, plans and specifications. Possess the ability to discuss media selection and implications for implementation on the network. Make recommendations based on applicable codes, standards, and best practices. Interpret the job plan and scope of work as well as perform retrofits and upgrades for existing infrastructure. Must be able to distinguish between different colors, possess manual dexterity to complete fine motor tasks, stand for extended periods of time, climb ladders, and lift and carry items weighing up to 50lbs. Top Secret SCI clearance required.
This position requires a Secret US DoD security clearance.
Acceptable substitute for the associates degree is an additional three (3) years of related experience in a technical or scientific field relating to the delivery order.
